Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences and meaning of art therapy programs to relieve the emotional labor stress of nurse managers through focus group interviews and to examine possibilities for the psychological intervention of nurses through future art therapy. For this, nine nurse managers who had participated in a total of six sessions in art therapy programs utilizing self-portraits participated in the study. Research results showed that the meaning of art therapy experiences for nurse managers were ¡®have difficulty concentrating on art therapy due to vague boundaries¡¯, ¡®feel burdened expressing myself¡¯, ¡®experience immersion through program structure¡¯, and ¡®newly become aware of myself through art¡¯. Based on this, it could be verified that the spatial separation of work and therapy, psychological distance among group members, and the detailed structuration of programs are essential elements for therapeutic intervention. This study is significant in that it provides base material for future studies and presents direction in a state where there is an unsatisfactory amount of psychological intervention regarding the stress of emotional labors like nurse managers.
